Six themes at Universal's Sentosa park

IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA

THE Universal theme park planned for Sentosa would have six different areas around a lagoon, with each area featuring distinctive architecture, landscaping and entertainment. The themes would be:

  • Hollywood
    This would 'bring to life' iconic locations from blockbuster movies such as American Graffiti and house attractions such as Shrek 4D, as well as a new attraction based on the children's series Sesame Street.

  • Cartoon World
    A major attraction based on the animated film Madagascar would have state-of-the-art robotics and name-recognition technology so characters 'talk' to visitors by name. Cartoon character Snoopy and the entire Peanuts family would also have a dedicated area.

  • The Lost World Jurassic Park
    A collaboration with director Steven Spielberg, this would feature a new version of the Jurassic Park ride using robotic dinosaurs. There would also be a live-action stunt show called Waterworld - which plays at Universal Studios Japan and Los Angeles - based on the Kevin Costner film of same name.

  • Super hero city
    Dedicated to comic book super heroes, this area would house a new version of the 3-D thrill ride The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman. The ride will feature a 70-foot high 'OmniDome' digital projection screen. Another ride here would be the Incredible Hulk Coaster, based on a roller-coaster ride in Orlando but upgraded for Singapore. The Orlando ride has been voted one of the top 10 steel coasters in the US.

  • Egypt
    Created in consultation with the Oriental Museum in Chicago and the British Museum, this area would house the Revenge of the Mummy ride. There are also plans for an area where kids can learn about archaeology and 'play' archaeologist.

  • Big Apple
    Real movie and television production would take place here. There are plans for an attraction based on Tony Award-winning musical Wicked, and an attraction that explains how special effects such as stunt driving are created. An attraction based on Peter Jackson's King Kong will also be housed here.
