IT was hardly a sight to behold.
After enjoying a lazy Saturday sleep-in, some Ang Mo Kio residents awoke to a startling sight.

An unsolicited nude show was taking place right in their backyard.

Just across from their block, on the rooftop of a multi-storey carpark, a man was taking a shower.

Out in the open, stark naked and using a fire hose.

The unidentified man, believed to be in his mid-30s, was spotted by residents around 12.30pm last Saturday on the rooftop of the five-storey carpark on Ang Mo Kio Street 11.

He was described as a thin, tan man of average height.

As scores of people from the neighbouring blocks looked on in disbelief, the man took his time, taking a leisurely shower that lasted 30 minutes.

OBLIVIOUS TO STARES

He washed himself thoroughly and walked around nonchalantly, seemingly oblivious to the stares he was getting.

Disgusted residents called Shin Min Daily News to complain.

Among them was a 50-year-old housewife, who declined to be identified.

She happened to be looking out of the window and did a double take.

She said: 'I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. I was shocked. My heart was pumping.'

Her son eventually took photographs of the man with his handphone and sent them to Shin Min Daily News.

Another resident who witnessed the bizarre affair, Miss Huang, said: 'I know the sun was blazing that day and I guess he wanted to cool himself down. But he could have chosen a better spot, right?'

Mr Soh, who also lives nearby, said the rooftop of the carpark is often deserted.

'He must have thought it was going to be a safe place for him to shower,' he said. Mr Soh added that his mother, sister, wife and 3-year-old daughter also witnessed the man showering.

'My daughter asked me why the man was not wearing any clothes. I didn't know how to answer her,' he said.

He recalled that two weeks ago, he had seen a man loitering suspiciously on the rooftop in the middle of the night.

But he is unsure if it was the same man.

The police arrived soon and started questioning the man, witnesses said.

By then, the man was fully dressed, wearing a dark-coloured T shirt, shorts and slippers.

He did not object to having his photograph taken, they said.

Neighbours told Shin Min Daily News that they had often seen the man sitting alone at a nearby coffee shop and believes he is unemployed.

It is not known if he lives in the area.

The man is now in custody and police are investigating.

Anyone caught committing an obscene act in a public place can be fined, jailed for up to three months, or given both punishments.
