Maximising land use? Think again Monday August 7, 2006 Letter from Lee Yu Zhou I refer to the letter, "Maximising land use for the good of the country" (Aug 4). By compromising on the size of each individual residential unit, developers can construct more houses per plot of land. So theoretically, en-bloc sales means more people can live in the new estates, opening up more land space for us to develop. But is this really happening? From what I see, many of the recently constructed estates that are results of en-bloc sales are less than half-filled because people are inclined to purchase more spacious, more exclusive property to reside in. So, is leaving half this plot of land empty after spending millions in developing it really maximising land use for the good of the country? I think not. | |
