| | | | | SINGAPORE : A total of $332 million will be spent to upgrade lifts and provide barrier-free accessibility for Tampines residents.
Of the money, to be disbursed over the next five years, $200 million will go towards the upgrading of lifts.
The rest of the money will be spent on building recreational amenities and infrastructural facilities.
Senior citizens and the physically-disabled will benefit from the upgrading as barrier-free accessibility will be increased.
This was announced at the first-ever Tampines Town Hall Forum for residents to find out what is new in their neighbourhood.
Mr Mah Bow Tan, Minister for National Development and MP for Tampines GRC, said: "On a nationwide basis, we are going to improve the accessibility for the physically-disabled and also for the elderly, and each town council will be rolling out its own plans for that. As for Tampines Town Council, we are doing the same and we will be briefing the residents, giving them an idea of what we intend to do." - CNA/de
