| The Urban Redevelopment Authority's conservation programme has won a global award for excellence.
In giving the award, the judges commended Singapore for having established a model conservation programme to preserve the country's rich cultural heritage of vernacular buildings and colourful neighbourhoods.
They also say the URA has achieved a balance between free-market economics and cultural conservation by using a collaborative approach involving government organisations, the public and the developers.
The Global Awards for Excellence are widely acknowledged as the most prestigious recognition programme for best practices in the land use industry.
Established in 1979, the awards are given out by the Urban Land Institute, an international non-profit education and research organisation.
Singapore is the only Global Award winner from the Asia Pacific region.
The other four winners are from the Americas and Europe. - CNA/ir |
