The area, nestled between Holland Village and Orchard Road, is being developed as a distinctive community offering fine dining, educational facilities and the arts.
The sprawling 40-acre property is managed by the Singapore Land Authority (SLA).
The leased buildings were once part of a British army barracks.
Among the latest tenants is the Saint James' Church Kindergarten.
Jacqueline Chung, Principal at St. James Church Kindergarten, says: "I think it is really good for young children to be in touch with nature. So our children have many opportunities to grow things, to see butterflies, to see caterpillars."
Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, Senior Minister of State, Law & Home Affairs, says that this entire area offers the possibility of combining both business interest and rustic charm.
Maintaining the rustic charm of Tanglin Village is a top priority for the SLA, since that is one of the main selling points of the area. In order to keep the character of the place intact, SLA is choosing its tenants very carefully.
Two sites in Tanglin Village are coming up for tender within the next six months, as SLA continues to develop the property in careful stages.
The authority says future tenants must be businesses that are compatible with the concept of the village. - CNA/so
