HDB dwellers looking to hire contractors for minor home repairs can now turn to the Housing Board website for help.
The board has made available on www.hdb.gov.sg a list of 18 contractors that residents can hire to repair, say, leaking water pipes or faulty electrical sockets. There is also a maximum rate that contractors can charge for various services, which the 18 listed have agreed on.
For instance, contractors are to charge no more than $20 to deal with a choked sink.
An HDB spokesman said that providing this list is a service. But residents do not have to hire a contractor from the list and are advised to contact a few others to get the best quote.
The 18 listed have been used by the Housing Board for its repair works and have a good track record. The list will be reviewed in six months.
According to the Consu- mers Association of Singapore (Case), the most complaints lodged against HDB contractors are to do with hard-sell tactics and overcharging.
Last year, Case received 150 complaints against contractors working in HDB flats, and 57 have been received so far this year.
